Camping with Mom

With a beautiful Spring and a not-so-hot summer, yet... we decided to head out camping for Mom's Birthday weekend. Check out the new tent (1st time use)! It was also Davey's 1st horseback riding trip. We found Roosevelt State Park in Pine Mountain, GA that offered horseback riding and nice campsites. He stayed on the horse Cowboy, (which he couldn't remember the name, so it became a game where I would say Dallas.. & he filled in with Cowboy) , but Mom in the back was having an anxiety attack with every trot & run! Davey was fearless and begged to do it again! Maybe in the Fall-

French Quater Fest... Again

Better get use to these festival blogs, b/c they will keep on coming. This was Davey's 4th, maybe 5th FQFest & was it fun! We started out the week with a trip to Biloxi, MS (pictures of children gambling are illegal), haha so no pics from there, but New Orleans was busy and happening. The music was rocking and Davey's at an age where he finds it fun to watch the people & dance. The Festival had a children's area down by the river and Davey was excited to play the games and with the other children.
We did have an afternoon of dancing (thank goodness there
are no pics of that... but there may have been something in the kool-ade that day! Wait till he really understands why we go down there! Bourbon St. watch out!

Basketball Round #2

Another Basketball season comes to a close... definitely a lack luster season, however, Davey's ball skills definitely improved over last year. He definitely felt more confident and became the leading free point shooter on the team! You would hear the coach say..."Walker, to the line!" , so Mommy now uses it to get attention!
2 points!

Paging the 6-year old...

Wow- 6 years flew by. Davey had his Big boy birthday party at the park near our house. Except for the g-force winds, the party was a huge success. Ben 10 was the theme complete with an organic cake made by Mom. But the most fun was had at the playground. Davey enjoyed his friends and was showered with transformers, star wars figures, and love from lots of friends. Thanks to all who made my big boy's 6th birthday so special.

UT Fan

It's official... Davey bleeds orange! He's been going to UT games for 3 years, however this year the love of Tennessee football hit! Davey was very interested in the players, the wave, the M&M's, and the score of the game. Apparently with boys, its all about who wins. Fortunately, UT pulled out the win & Davey's eyes were open to the world of football!

1st Day of Kindergarten

How is it possible that my sweet pea is headed to Kindergarten? Davey was born to be a student! He is so eager to learn and I'm excited he is excited. There were no tears from me and no horrible screaming fit from him (like several kids I saw)- Just another transition from tot to big boy! He seemed so mature (could have been the uniform). So motivated, (change of learning venue). And unfortunately, he was able to let me walk out of the classroom with just a simple wave from his seat.
Huh, maybe this is the transition in my life?? You think?t

Ahoy Ship Island

This summer Davey & I took a week off and went with Lou & Poppy to Biloxi and New Orleans. A super time was had by all! First Mommy won $100 in the casino (GREAT way to start off the trip!), then it was off to have some outdoor fun. We planned an excursion trip to Ship Island, a barrier island off the coast of Biloxi, and explored an old Fort, played in the ocean, built a sandcastle, and made friends with a crab named Earl.
Then onto New Orleans where we listened to music, walked the streets, and of course did some shopping.
Davey just loves New Orleans! I believe the expression (when we arrived at the hotel) was "Ahhh... home sweet home"

Reniassance Kid

Another festival, another sword. That seems to be Davey's souvenir of choice. This year we went to the Reniassance on the last day (*note to self- don't go the last day) It seemed lack luster than the year before, or maybe the heat gets to you a little more. Davey had a good time, checking out the knights and wenches, and helped to move some fish n' chips out of the way. He keeps his options open and told me that maybe in a couple of years, he'll be wanting to dress like a knight. Ok by me.

Memorial Day Fun

Another fun Holiday Weekend has come and gone. Davey & I spent time with his Cousin Carson and his mom MaryLynn in Clemson, SC. Davey & Carson play so well together and have very similar temperments so MaryLynn and I try to get them together as often as possible. The weekend was unfortunately full of rainy days, but there is alot of fun to be had indoors with two 5-year old imaginations! We cooked out, played around the lake, and even had a few sparklers to commemerate the holiday.
Having a 5-day weekend with my little boy was the best!

Blog? What?

Who has time? Between work, play & facebook... there really is no time for the Blog.

Davey & I are planning on a fun summer. Our rainy Spring has cut many of our fun outings short, but we have had the opportunity to spend alot of quality time together.
I am watching a little boy making a huge transition from the "age 5" mindset to "age 6". He is getting older and acting older! His opinions are changing, he speaks his mind more often, and he is quite the negotiator lately. Next thing you know, he'll not want to hold my hand in public!! Davey is all about the superheros lately. And even though he watches minimal T.V., he is able to recite many of the Cartoon Network commercials? If he does this well with repetition in school, we can hope for good grades!

French Quarter Fest 2009

Another fun festival and a relaxing vacation for Davey & the Mom.

We had an interesting trip this year, that started with a new flip-flop that fell into the ocean, at the end of the shrimp boat pier. That then had to be fished out with a rope and a hook. And then dried for later wear. Exhibt A in the photo to the right.

Then we ventured into the middle of a New Orleans Hornets playoff celebration near Harrah's casino. And happened upon some yummy crawfish (see photo), which Davey really seemed to like.

Then onto the F.Q. Fest for 2 days, where we listened to some awesome cajun and blues music and even danced a little. Can't wait for next year.

Happy Spring?

Well, it acts like Spring, and then we go back to Winter for a couple of days... then back to Spring again! Davey & I are in need of sunshine and a spring break because, we both seem to be on the cusp of rainy day fever. With Davey going up significantly in sizes and attitude this year, the Spring and Summer "big boy" clothes are calling to me. I definitely seem to be drawn to the mall for continual shopping trips. Take for instance our trip to the mall to visit the E. Bunny on Thursday... Necessary? or just a ploy to check out Old Navy's storewide sale? Shop on Moms of 5-year olds, shop on!

It's not just a phase

This is the part of the child-rearing in which the Mom has to say- wait just a minute....
All of a sudden his pants are too short, his shirts are too small, his mouth is forever going, and to be honest... it's going way too fast. I mean one day it's Thomas train and Bob the Builder- the next it's bakugons and Ben 10 alien force!
Maybe as a girl I made a giant switch from Cabbage Patch Kids to Barbies around this age? And don't get me wrong- I'm thrilled with Davey's mental capability, his spirutal growth and physical development (all signs of a healthy, well-adjusted child)- it just seems that my 5 year old is turning into a teen-ager over night.
Lately I hear, "I know Mom, I know." Well if you knew, then why did I even have to say it?
OH OH, yeah, and when did I become MOM? I thought I would be MOMMY forever. I'm just telling you ladies out there with small boys... I'm entering a whole new zone of raising a man. Time to plan, do, check, and adjust.

A Tournament Champion

Davey's Basketball season now comes to an end. His team not only won the tournament- they also won best in the
5 & 6 year old division, and undefeated in the league. Davey was awesome on defense. His coaches gave him the best improved player and he even got his first foul today! He seemed to really like basketball (much more than soccer or tee-ball) and has already asked to play it again next year.
For now we will bask in the glow of the winning season, and start setting our sites on martial arts!! WAY TO GO DUKE!

Going Medieval

Davey & I share a love of many things... however pirates and knights rank on the top of the list. So it was inevitable that we venture to Medieval Times to watch some great sword play and exciting jousting. Davey barely blinked throughout the whole 2 hours. He was definitely excited that the yellow knight (who we were cheering for) won out in the end. Even after 2 days, he is still asking, when can he go back. Mommy's thinking definitely the 6-year birthday theme!

These games never go out of style

A Saturday afternoon and a game of Twister. Can it get better than that? The only thing- their little legs can't stretch the whole way! This whole month we've made time for board games and action games. Brings the family together and creates a whole lot of laughs.

We're playing baskkketttballlll!

Ok- so no action shots and no fast breaks.. they are just 5 & 6 year-olds, However it is pretty hilarious to watch. Davey's team is DUKE, obviously UT was not an option or I would have protested. And thank goodness he isn't on the Georgia team! We have a group of cool kids and Coach Brian has a way with teaching kids the basics of dribbling, shooting, and defense. Davey's not too accurate of a shooter, but will rebound and play some pretty good defense. He's got a good head for it and so far it seems his sport of choice. Go Duke!

Happy New Year from Davey's World

What might the New Year hold for this boy and his Mom?
Maybe a new job?
Maybe a fun trip?
Maybe winning the lottery?
Guranteed lots of firsts for this 5-year old. Check out the 1st time bike rider minus the training wheels! There were a couple of falls and plenty of tears, but the day was super successful. Now we'll have to try it on pavement.

Santa rides again...

The Jolly old St. Nick did it again- slipped in, left the gifts and slipped out just as fast, but leaving us some snowy footprints in his wake. (even in Florida, where it never snows) Davey tried super hard to stay up late (well around 9:30) but just couldn't make it to see the man. At 5, it sure is easy to convince him to get to bed or Santa might not visit, but who knows what it will be like when he's 10?

We had a very good Christmas in Florida. Enjoying our family and friends and of course the receiving of presents. Davey was lucky enough to get a Speed Racer Fuji Helixcon Track (see movie for details), and Santa must have spent more than 30-45 minutes figuring out how it went together, and he's pretty mechanically minded! But luckily he taught me how to take it apart for easy travel. Of course their were other presents, but none that rivaled the track & new car to go on it. Mommy got a GPS for her car. Had Santa known how cool Davey thought the GPS (aka, the little T.V.) was, he would have just brought that for the family? But at least Mommy will no longer get lost when she tries a new route in & around Atlanta.

Merry late Christmas
